18th Annual Carl Gordaneer Memorial Christmas Tournament
The Brampton Peewee Bulldogs win Silver at the 18th Annual Carl Gordaneer Memorial Christmas Tournament!  It was a busy week for the Bulldogs who celebrated the Christmas break by playing at the beautiful Mastercard Centre in Toronto, the practice facility for the Toronto Maple Leafs, while coming home with Silver medals.

The tournament didn’t start out great for the Bulldogs.  Facing a tough Richmond Hill team for the first time, the Bulldogs dropped their opening game by a score of 2-0.  It wasn’t for lack of effort though as the team had numerous scoring chances only to be denied by the Richmond Hill goalie who was at his best that day.  Game MVP was Thomas Ferreira who made some great saves and kept his team in the game until Richmond Hill potted an empty net goal to seal the win.

Game 2 saw the Bulldogs take on the host team Faustina.  Needing a win after their opening loss, the Bulldogs battled hard for the first two periods, only to see the scored tied at zero thanks to a tough Faustina squad.  Finally in the 3rd period the Bulldogs came alive with their first goals of the tournament scored by Riley Cheeseman, then Sebastian Jaskulski to seal the 2-0 victory.   Game MVP was presented to Colton Gillingham who had a great two way game and chipped in with an assist.

The final game of the round robin play was against a familiar foe in Caledon, with a chance to advance the Gold medal game with a win.  This game was a battle from start to finish with both teams exchanges chances early on.  Again, the game was scoreless going into the 3rd period until Riley Cheeseman, who was Game MVP,  scored for the Bulldogs with just over 8 minutes remaining.  They held off an aggressive Caledon squad and finished with a 1-0 victory, and a spot in the Golf Medal game!

In the Gold medal game, the Bulldogs had a rematch with Caledon, who were looking to avenge their loss two days earlier.  The Bulldogs started with a flourish with numerous scoring chances, but were not rewarded until early in the 2nd period when Jacob Hendrikx redirected a shot from the point by Kaiden Gordon past the Caledon goalie for a 1-0 score.  Gregory MacDonald added another goal late in the period to give the Bulldogs a commanding 2-0 lead heading into the 3rd and final period.  Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Caledon had other plans and came out in the 3rd period looking like a whole new team.  They ended up putting 5 past the Bulldogs and ended up winning the Gold by a 5-2 margin.

While the game didn’t end as the Bulldogs had planned, they played a great tournament and came away with the Silver medal, which is a great accomplishment!! Great job Bulldogs!! Time to get ready for the playoffs now.
