Buffalo Tournament Championship Finals
Congratulations to the Brampton Minor Peewee MD3 (Blue) hockey team, who
were championship finalists in the 46th annual Gene Harrington Invitational
Shootout Classic.
The team faced some
early adversity, with a 6-0 loss to Hamilton on Friday morning. Following
that game, the boys headed to the Buffalo outdoor arena, and while wearing eye
black to help with the glare, defeated Avenue Road 5-1. They were
positioned well for the playoffs, despite giving up a late power play goal in a
2-2 tie against Monroe Country in their final round robin game.
Up next was an early Sunday morning semi-final game vs. previously
undefeated Oakville. The Brampton team was well prepared, ready to play,
and responded with a solid all-around effort. The final score was a 2-0
shutout victory, and an on ice celebration.
They were then off
to the championship final game, and a rematch against Hamilton. The team
had definitely bonded, were greatly improved, and not content to just make it
to the final game. Despite falling behind 2-0, there was no quit from the
players, and they ultimately
lost 4-2. There were some tears, and heartache at losing in the
finals. The tournament, however, was wrapped up with smiles and joy as
the players were presented their awards and then gathered on ice for team
photos.
The players can all
be proud of coming home with individual finalist trophies, as well as a large
team trophy. Well done to all the boys, and congratulations on crossing
the border, to bring home some nice shiny hardware.
Well done!
