Canadian Cup
The Minor Midget 45’s MD1 Black team traveled down the 401
into Montreal to compete for the Canadian Cup on Montreal’s South Shore on the
weekend. The players competed hard but unfortunately came up just short in the Gold
Medal Championship game.
In the Gold Medal Championship game against the Leaside Flames, Brampton opened the scoring with Sachin Sharma scoring at 11:37 of the first period for an early lead. Leaside responded at 10:06 of the first to even the score at 1. Brampton responded quickly to regain a one goal lead with Peter Kozmevski scoring on the power play at 9:43. The lead was held until it was once again evened up with Leaside scoring at 2:45 of the first period. Both teams played through scoreless second and third periods. Overtime failed to solve the deadlock which lead to a shootout. Both goaltenders made spectacular saves with the shootout lasting six rounds.
Brampton’s goaltender Michael Mancini was awarded the player of the game. Brampton’s Joshua Attard was named the tournaments most sportsmanlike player.
