Update to the Rec League Membership

First I would like to, on behalf of the Brampton Hockey Executive, Board and Staff, apologize if you experienced any mix up with the start up of hockey and in your schedules this past week. We certainly did not begin our opening weekend the way we planned but I know that our volunteers and office staff were doing their best with the information they had available to them.

Update to the Rec League Membership

First I would like to, on behalf of the Brampton Hockey Executive, Board and Staff, apologize if you experienced any mix up with the start up of hockey and in your schedules this past week. We certainly did not kick off opening weekend the way we planned but I know that our volunteers and office staff were doing their best with the information they had available to them.

Here is an update of what has transpired to this point:

Players that registered were assigned to a team with coaches the evening of Tuesday September 29th. Information emails regarding player placement and teams were sent to all potential coaches on Wednesday September 30th which asked for them to notify their respective teams/players of their team placement and opening weekend.  It seems that in many cases those coaches either did not receive those emails, responded back to the VP Recreation stating they were unable to coach (for various reasons), or chose to request a refund due to the uncertainty of the Covid Virus. Friday afternoon the VP's of Recreation resigned from their volunteer position and we all had to scramble as players were starting to hit the ice in 12-16 hours. We had many volunteers at the rinks on Saturday and others working remotely from home trying to assist in the best way possible. Unfortunately there were many hurdles that we could not cover in that short amount of time.

Players that had not been contacted were instructed as to their scheduled ice times for the weekend if they contacted the office to inquire. Some players that previously played Rep hockey in the past that stated they were choosing to play Rec hockey also were not contacted as that information did not make its way into the office. We followed up with all coaches that were originally placed to confirm whether they were still  interested in coaching or if they would be kind enough to assist. We had a lot of positive comments and volunteers did come out of those conversations but we are still short coaches and volunteers in many divisions. We would certainly welcome any help moving forward from interested individuals. We do need to ensure there is better communication moving forward so that no one is wondering what team they are on or what time or location is there scheduled time slot.

We will be trying to fill any coaching voids over the next few days and hope to have our Rec League up and running normally for this coming weekend knowing full-well hockey is anything but normal for the 2020-21 season.

We appreciate your patience while we work through these times and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Please let us know if you are able to dedicate some time to assist whether it is to coach, help out with some rink organization, convene or be co convenors (etc.) After all, this is for your children and their enjoyment.

We are committed to getting all players, no matter what skill level, back on the ice in the safest environment possible.

Sincerely,

Glenn McIntyre
