International Silver Stick® Brampton Regional - REGISTRATION is now OPEN!

The International Silver Stick® Association was founded by Jack Kinsella in Ottawa in 1957. The purpose of the venture was to further International Relations between Peewee and Bantam age players from the Ottawa area and New York State . The theme of the entire program is to promote citizenship and goodwill through the medium of Silver Stick® hockey, and to foster sportsmanship through international competition for youth of all nations.

Regional Tournaments are held throughout North America in areas reaching from Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Alabama, and Maryland. The main concentration of Regional Tournaments are held in Ontario and the North Central United States.

The winning teams from the Regionals then vie for top honours at the Silver Stick® Finals where they compete against the winners from the other Regionals.

The Brampton Regional Silver Stick® is one of the largest and longest running Silver Stick® Regional Qualifying Tournaments. The origins of the Brampton Regional Silver Stick® started back in 1971 when an application to host a regional was made to Silver Stick® by Bill Williams, President of the Chinguacousy Minor Hockey Association.  Discussions and meetings continued into June of 1972 when delegates from the C.M.H.A. met with officials of Silver Stick® in Toronto and the C.M.H.A. was accepted as a Regional Representative for Silver Stick® International.  The Lions Club accepted the offer to sponsor the tournament along with the C.M.H.A.  Bill was appointed as the Regional Director for the South Central Ontario Region and John Macumber was appointed Tournament Director.

For the inaugural Brampton Regional Silver Stick® games were played in the AA, A, and B Divisions in all age categories with the exception of Juvenile.  In 1973 the C.M.H.A. accepted AAA divisions as the association's rating with the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) had moved from AA to AAA.

Under the guidance of Tournament Director Bernie Dowling, the Brampton Regional Silver Stick® soon became the largest tournament in Silver Stick® with 154 teams participating.  Bill became an International Director with Silver Stick® and served as Commissioner of Silver Stick® from 1985 to 1987.  John Macumber moved on to Owen Sound where he developed a Silver Stick® Regional that continues to this day.

In 1998 the Brampton Minor Hockey Association and the Chinguacousy Minor Hockey Association amalgamated to form the Brampton Youth Hockey Association, now renamed Brampton Hockey Inc (BHI).  The Brampton Regional Silver Stick® has continued under the guidance of BHI since 1998.  The tournament now features teams in the major age divisions from Novice to Midget that are in the AA and A classifications.

Bob Giroux Memorial Tournament

REGISTRATION is now open

The Bob Giroux Memorial Tournament is held on the first weekend of December each year. The tournament is for Select Teams in the 6 and 7 year old age divisions and for many players this will be the first tournament that they will participate in.

Robert Giroux, better known as Coach Bob, was a man that dedicated his life to hockey.  Bob was involved with Coaching Hockey in the Chinguacousy and Brampton Minor/Youth associations for approximately 30 years.  During and after his Police Career with Toronto Police, Bob spent countless hours volunteering at the hockey rinks.  He was always the first to be at the rink and always was the last person to leave the rink.

Bob had many roles during his involvement with minor hockey.  Bob was a Coach, a Mentor, an Executive and Committee member and the co-coordinator of the Brampton Hockey Inc's Hockey School and Mini Troopers.  Bob's main goals in his many roles was to ensure that every player left the rink with a smile on their face and to ensure that every player had the best hockey experience that he could offer.  The current Select 6 and Select 7 programs that operate in the Brampton Hockey were created by Bob.

Bob was and is Brampton Minor Hockey.  Brampton Hockey is pleased to continue to honour Bob's memory by hosting the Bob Giroux Memorial Tournament.

Teams from Central Ontario have enjoyed this tournament that focuses on giving these young players possibly their first tournament experience.

Thanks for everything Coach Bob!  We miss you!
