Representative Hockey
Brampton Hockey currently has teams at the AA, A, BB, and MD levels from the U10 age division to the U18 age division. Most teams from U14 to U18 play in leagues where body checking is permitted.
The AA, A, and BB teams play in the Tri-County League, which includes teams from Orangeville, Caledon, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Niagara, Guelph and other centres in the OMHA’s Central District. The AA teams play in the Bowen Division, the A teams play in the Smith Division, BB teams in the Harrison division. All teams in these groups play 28 regular season games before moving onto the league playoffs which start in late February.
Rep hockey requires a much greater time and financial commitment from both the player and the parent. Brampton 45’s Rep teams practice 2-3 times a week and usually play 2 games per week, plus 3-5 tournaments in a season. In addition to practices run by the coaching staff, Brampton Hockey Rep teams receive 10 hours of individual Skills Development by expert instructors from a handful of top hockey training schools from our area.
Parents should be aware that Brampton Hockey does assess each Rep team a surcharge to cover the additional cost of playing at this level. The surcharge is a team cost to which all players are required to contribute their appropriate share. In addition to the surcharge, teams will do fund-raising to cover other costs related to the operation of the team such as tournament fees, extra practice ice, sweaters, and team apparel. Brampton Hockey does have within its Resolutions a maximum dollar amount that teams are permitted to charge each player to cover these additional costs. This information is provided to all parents at tryouts.
Tryouts for Brampton Hockey’s Representative Teams return to the spring for all teams this year. Tryouts begin in May – the full schedule will be released here on the Brampton Hockey website about a month prior to the first tryout. Brampton Hockey will also be conducting pre-tryout Prep Skates to help players prepare for tryouts and be game ready from the first tryout. Prep skates are open to all players, but tryouts are restricted to one level above your current level — players currently playing BB, MD or House League should contact the AA or A coach if they wish to try out for higher levels.
The progression of tryouts is AA then A then BB and concludes with MD. There is a nominal fee for each tryout session or a ‘passport’ fee to attend all prep skates and tryouts. Tryout fees will be published with the schedule.
